While Apple has got a lot of announcements planned for next week's Worldwide Apple Developers Conference, it has decided to go ahead and launch a major new app for its iPhone and iPod Touch devices. Apple issued a press release today announcing that the iWork app is now available for both products. The price for iWork is $9.99 but the app is free if you already own the iPad version of the app.

The new version of the iWork will allow iPhone and iPod Touch users to access iWork's features such as Keynote (for business presentations), Pages (for document writing) and Numbers (for spreadsheet creation). The work on the iWork app can be imported to the Mac version of iWork or to the Mac version of Microsoft Office. In addition you can purchase the separate Keynote Remote app for 99 cents. That app will allow iPhone and iPod Touch users to control Keynote presentations with any iOS or Mac products.

Of course this addition to the iPhone and iPod Touch app library is cool but it may pale in comparison to what may be announced on June 6 at the WWDC keynote in San Fransisco. Apple has already announced that it will reveal its plans for iOS 5, the next version of its mobile operating system, at the conference. In addition, it will reveal details about its iCloud service as well as the next version, code name "Lion" of its Mac OS X operating system. Apple has also announced that its CEO Steve Jobs will address the WWDC keynote.
